Microsoft Active Directory

Integrate Microsoft Active Directory with Torq to automate identity access, security, and permissions across your organization.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Microsoft Active Directory is a user identity and access management platform that authenticates users, manages permissions, and enforces security policies across organizations.

Torq enables quick and easy integration with Microsoft Active Directory, so you can automate anything and everything within moments. Torq's public Microsoft Active Directory steps include:

  • Add Computer to Group

  • Add User to Group

  • Custom LDAP Query

  • Disable Account

  • +9 more...

If you don't see a step you need, you can create your own in various ways, such as using the Send an HTTP Request step or Torq’s Step Builder, and share it across your organization.

To use Microsoft Active Directory steps in Torq workflows, look here.

Use Microsoft Active Directory Steps in Torq

Step One: Create a New AD User

  1. Open Active Directory: Navigate to Active Directory Users and Computers > Your Organizational Unit (OU), then click New > User.

  2. Name the User: Give the user a meaningful name, such as torq-integration.

  3. Set a Password: Assign a strong password and uncheck the User must change password at next login.

  4. Store Credentials Securely: Save the username and password in a secure location for later use in Torq.

  5. Set Group Membership: Navigate to the Account > Properties > Member Of > and ensure the user is in any required groups (the user should be automatically added to Domain Users).

Step Two: Get Your Domain Controller IP

  1. Open Active Directory: Launch Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) on a domain-joined machine.

  2. Check Connected DC: In the left-hand pane, right-click your domain name and select Change Domain Controller.

  3. View Controller Details: In the dialog, view the currently connected domain controller at the top and other available DCs listed below.

  4. Copy DC Hostname: Note the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the preferred domain controller (e.g., torqeng.dev).

  5. (Optionally) Resolve IP Address: Use a terminal or command prompt to run nslookup your-dc-hostname to get the domain controller’s IP address.

  6. Save the Address: Save the domain hostname and IP address in a secure location for later use in Torq.

Step Three: Create a Microsoft Active Directory Steps Integration in Torq

  1. Navigate to Integration: Go to Build > Integrations > Steps > Microsoft Active Directory and click Add Instance.

  2. Fill in the Details:

    1. Give the integration a unique and meaningful name.

    2. Select a credential type.

    3. Under Microsoft AD Username, write the name of the domain in all caps and then \ and enter the Microsoft AD username created earlier. Replace spaces within the username with dashes -. For example: TORQENG\torq-test.

    4. Enter the Microsoft AD password created earlier.

    5. Enter either the hostname or the domain controller IP copied earlier.

    6. Choose a protocol.

    7. Select if the integration should use the default port when necessary.

  3. Finalize: Click Save.
