Overview
Socrates brings Torq's agents into one conversational workspace. Describe a task, and the selected agent carries it out using its own instructions and tools. Each chat runs on a single agent, which also sets the greeting, suggested prompts, and composer options.
Torq provides two system agents. Investigator investigates threats and cases. Builder creates and maintains workflows and AI Agents. Custom AI Agents that your team publishes to Socrates appear in the same picker.
Each Socrates chat costs 8 AI Credits, regardless of the agent or the number of messages. The charge applies when you send the message that starts the chat. See AI Pricing Model.
How to use
Open Socrates
Click Socrates at the top of the left sidebar.
Select an agent
Open the agent picker: Click the agent name at the top of the page.
Find the agent: Enter a name in Search agent to narrow the list. Torq-managed agents carry a Torq badge.
Select the agent: Select it from the list. The greeting, suggested prompts, and composer options change to match the agent.
Each chat keeps the agent it started with. To use a different agent, start a new chat.
A custom AI Agent appears in the picker once it is published and Socrates is selected under Agent availability on its Properties tab. Chats always use the agent's latest published version, so publishing changes applies them to existing chats. See AI Agent Setup.
Start a chat
Open a new chat: Click New Chat.
Describe the task: Enter the request in the composer.
(Optional) Attach a file: Click Attach file and select a file.
(Optional) Add collaborators: Click Add collaborators and select users or groups.
Send the message: Click the send arrow. The chat appears in the chat list.
Find and organize chats
The chat list shows the chats you have access to, based on the active filters. Each entry carries the icon of its agent.
Change the layout: Click Change view, then select Compact or Detailed.
Rename or delete a chat: Open the chat's three-dot menu.
Filter the list: Click Filter chats, then set any of the following:
Socrates: Select Investigator, Builder, or both to show chats for those agents.
Admin view: Turn on Show all workspace chats to include private chats. Available to the Owner role.
Chat view: Select My chats, Public chats, or both.
Set chat access
Each chat has one of three access levels, set from its three-dot menu under Manage access. New chats are Private.
Private: Only you can access the chat.
Restricted: Only you and the users or groups you select can access the chat.
Public: Anyone with access to Socrates can open the chat. Investigator and Builder chats also require that agent's read scope.
Only the user who created the chat can change its access level or manage collaborators. Anyone with access to a chat can send messages in it. The exception is Admin view: an Owner viewing a Private chat they were not added to can read it, but cannot send messages.
Expanding a chat's access exposes its full history, not just messages sent afterward. This applies to both changing the access level and adding a collaborator. Review the chat before expanding access, especially if it covers a sensitive topic.
Track agent activity
Every Socrates message creates an entry in the Activity Log under the event source Socrates conversation message. Go to Monitor > Activity Log. Socrates Tools the agent called during the message appear in the entry's payload. Workflows run from a chat appear with Torq Socrates as the actor. Chats with a custom AI Agent do not appear in the agent's Log tab on the AI Agents page.
Differences between agents
Everything above applies to every agent. These behaviors vary:
AI model: Select the model in the composer when using Builder. Custom AI Agents use the model set on the agent, shown in the composer. Investigator does not offer model selection.
Tool menu: Type
/to specify tools. Investigator lists Socrates Tools. Custom AI Agents list the tools configured on the agent. Builder has no tool menu.Modes: Builder runs in Plan or Build mode, set in the composer. Other agents have no modes.
Suggested prompts: Investigator and Builder offer suggested prompts. Custom AI Agents do not.
